Here is a bird
we called in. The call of choice was the Yellow Ultra Hen Diaphragm. 3 year old
bird with a 10 1/2" beard, 1 " spurs, 22 lbs . He and a Jake came in after a few
series of calls. The shot was about 25 yards. The hunter is 'coon ass' Toby
Frierson from Baton Rouge, La. He was hunting in the Scooba Ms area with me.

Here at Wood
Butcher Calls, each call is hand made one at time. No two calls are exactly the
same, but they may be similar in appearance.
Each call is
made by John Frame, an up and coming call maker since 2003. John is originally
from Miami Fl., were he was born and raised until age 26. he moved around the
eastern part of the country until May 1991, when he came the Charlotte, NC. area
where he now lives in Midland, NC. He has always had a love of
the outdoors since he was big enough to hold his own fishing pole in south
Florida. In 1994 he took his first deer
hunting trip and discovered the great outdoors of North Carolina. In 1995 he
took his first buck deer in Richmond County and saw his first wild turkey in the
woods. He fell in love with the wild turkey and began hunting turkey in 1996. He
has since then took many Eastern gobblers in North Carolina. Not being satisfied
with the commercial calls, feeling that something special was missing from them,
he decided to make his own call. That first call was a turtle shell w/ slate,
Which he still has and uses in the turkey woods each spring. Several friends had
liked this call and wanted one also. as a friend he would make them one for
little or no money, just the satisfaction of having made a call that worked was
rewarding enough . This passion has turned into a hobby and now has become a
small business and here we are today. Each call is still rewarding for him as he
wants the owner to have a special call to be passed down from each generation to
the next. As a full time Firefighter, he now has spare time to make calls and
enjoy the outdoors.
"The
name WOOD BUTCHER comes from my father, who in Florida introduced me to the
outdoors as a small child. My father, also a career Firefighter, had little or
no woodworking skills and would joke about being a WOOD BUTCHER and not much of
a carpenter. So after lots of names and thought, WOOD BUTCHER has become my call
making name."
